The YMCA pays tribute to the memory of Juan Carlos Ceriani

The Young Men's Christian Association (YMCA) paid tribute to the memory of the creator of indoor soccer, the Uruguayan physical education teacher Juan Carlos Ceriani.

The international body was moved by the desire to emphasize the teacher's work and the impact generated by his brilliant conception first in South America and then throughout the world, as a faithful reflection of the great task of the YMCA that was born in the United States and from there projected itself towards the most different and distant latitudes, being the ideal receptacle that incubated the creation of various sports and among them indoor soccer, born in Montevideo in 1930.

The small country on the eastern bank of the Rio de la Plata, in its own image and likeness, was also the ideal place for the birth of indoor soccer, taking advantage of the overwhelming enthusiasm generated by successive conquests of Uruguayan soccer, with two successive titles at the Olympic level in 1924 and 1928 and another in the Uruguayan capital in the first world competition sponsored by FIFA.

The tribute took place in Romania, on the occasion of the inauguration of the YMCA Hub in Bucharest.

The photo shows the Secretary General of YMCA Worldwide, Carlos Sanvee, and the Secretary General of YMCA Europe, Juan Simoes Iglesias, attending the pleasant event.

On its digital platforms, the YMCA describes that this newly opened center preserves the culture, heritage and history of the YMCA in Romania. It features a media center, daycare, skills enhancement programs and much more.
Through this centre, the YMCA will help ensure that young people, families and refugees have the opportunity to develop and thrive. Exciting times ahead!
